Where North America's AI Data Center Money Lands, Country by Country

North America AI Data Center market size and forecast

Almost every dollar spent on AI data center capacity in North America is spent in one country. Of the $115.51 billion the regional market was worth in 2025, the United States accounted for $106.34 billion, roughly 92 percent. Canada followed at $6.94 billion and Mexico at $1.77 billion, with Costa Rica and Panama at about $0.11 billion each.

That concentration is the starting point for anyone reading the forecast. The regional total is expected to reach $1.21 trillion by 2035, growing at 26.5 percent a year over 2026 to 2035, which works out to a market a little more than ten times its 2025 size. The midpoint is useful too: about $374.17 billion in 2030.

Smaller markets, faster growth

The growth rates tell a different story from the size ranking. The United States is projected to grow at 26.4 percent a year, close to the regional average. The smaller markets move faster:

Country2025 valueCAGR
United States$106.34B26.4%
Canada$6.94B25.9%
Mexico$1.77B29.7%
Costa Rica$0.11B28.7%
Panama$0.11B29.7%

Mexico and Panama share the highest rate at 29.7 percent. Canada is the one market growing a little slower than the region, at 25.9 percent, even though it is the second largest by value. For site selection teams, this suggests the next wave of capacity outside the US is likely to be weighted toward Mexico rather than Canada.

Who is buying the capacity

The spending is also concentrated by company. Microsoft holds an estimated 15.0 percent share, Amazon Web Services 14.0 percent and Google 12.0 percent, so three firms together account for 41 percent. Meta (8.0 percent), Oracle (7.0 percent), CoreWeave (5.0 percent) and Equinix (4.0 percent) make up most of the rest of the named field.

Hyperscale facilities were half of the market in 2025, and cloud service providers were the largest end user group at 40 percent. In other words, the country map largely follows where a handful of cloud operators choose to build.

What could shift the map

  • Power. Nuclear supply agreements are counted among the factors adding to growth, which matters most in places where grid capacity is the limit on new campuses.
  • Permits. Faster federal permitting in the US shortens the time from announcement to energised halls.
  • Cooling. Air cooling is still the norm, but liquid cooling is gaining quickly, which changes what an existing building can host.

The short version: the United States sets the size of this market, but Mexico and the smaller Central American markets set the pace. Anyone tracking where capacity goes next should watch both numbers, not just the first.
